Make Everyone Happy?
It can often seem as if life is pushing you in a certain direction, only to find out that there are more surprises than you could've imagined. When I got back to Denver, I had no idea what I was going to do. I started relying on the kindness of friends and family instead of trying to find employment and it's working out this time. My Dad gave me a place to stay and inadvertently helped me further my art and political activism. Plus, not setting up obligations in Denver is allowing me to move to Tucson for a bit to start a company. It doesn't have anything to do with my art or music, but I think it will make the world a better place. Isn't that what this whole life thing is about?
I've been thinking about age recently. People my age complain that they're old. What makes you old? We think of people near the ends of their lives as old and those at the beginning as young; however, we base that off a life span of around 90 years. 40's and 50's are middle aged. So why do members of my generation already feel old? We've got most of our lives ahead of us. Hell, most of us aren't even in our prime yet. I suppose it has to do with giving up what's associated with youth. Free time for a lot of us is limited. Our money isn't disposable anymore. We can't eat or drink like we used to. If we're looking at those as the metrics for what makes a person young, one would expect me to feel old.
I feel younger than ever. To me, youth is all about the willingness to absorb life around you. Your body might not be new, but the moment is. It's being reinvented as it's happening and you are reinvented in it. This you is constrained by it's past; however, the same can be said of a child. I believe I've brought this point up before, but it bares repeating. The way you are a product of your decisions, a child is a product of it's circumstance. So what keeps you from thinking like a child? What stops you from bending the world to your imagination instead of vis versa? I don't know. If I did, I'd be writing about it.
Thank you, as always, for reading,
